There is even more concern placed on youths who use tanning beds. It has been said that teens who are 16 years of age or less can cause more damage to their skin since their skin is soft and tender. Also, those men and women who have fair skin coloring are more prone to becoming burnt when using a tanning bed, and this can contribute to skin cancer. If you have a family history of skin cancer, you may want to think twice before getting into a tanning bed because you are more vulnerable and predisposed to skin cancer to begin with. People who have freckles, red hair or very light fair hair should also avoid using tanning beds. If you are going to use a tanning bed, you should use it under medical supervision or with the strict guidelines given by a trained salon staff member. You do not want to use a tanning bed that has too much light intensity nor do you want to spend an overkill amount of time on a tanning bed because it is just asking for problems and trouble. You could cause skin irritations, your skin may age at a more rapid speed, and you may cause your skin to look leathery. Youngsters, such as teenagers, do not see or feel these skin changes as easily because their skin is still young, firm and supple. However, with constant usage of a tanning bed, they will eventually feel the effects later on down the road. Middle aged and elderly people should definitely monitor and limit the length of time they spend under the ultraviolet rays in a tanning bed. It is also extremely important to use specialized lotions and creams, which are specifically recommended for use in tanning beds, because these products were created especially for tanning beds and assist in protecting the skin from ultraviolet rays. People who have personal tanning beds in their home should be especially watchful and cautious because the easy access to a tanning bed may cause them to spend considerably more time in the tanning bed. They must be extremely careful with how they do use their tanning beds since there will be no one there to monitor their usage.
